About TradeRecount

TradeRecount helps options traders and developers check their numbers. It shows how each result was calculated, so that you can verify it.

Why it exists

Options traders often need answers that are hard to check. A breakeven figure may leave out fees. The price history of an expired contract can be difficult to find. A trading test can use data with gaps or wrong time stamps.

TradeRecount gives each answer with its inputs, its method, and its limits. You see the arithmetic, not only the result.

What it offers

The free options tools are available now. They calculate results from your inputs and show every step.

The historical options lookup is also available. It shows the recorded minute prices of one option contract, including expired contracts, and it marks the minutes with no record.

Other products are in development. They include data exports, exit-review reports, and backtest audits. They will use the same records and calculation rules.

How results are made

  • Each result shows its formula and the numbers that went into it.
  • Fees are inputs, because they change the result of a trade.
  • Each page lists what its result does not include.
  • Example figures come from the same code that calculates your results.
  • Data results will state their source, date range, time zone, and missing records. A missing record stays missing. TradeRecount does not fill gaps with estimated prices.

About the data

Recorded prices show trades that happened. They do not show the price that you could have received. A minute bar records the open, high, low, and close of the trades in one minute. It does not show the order of trades inside that minute.

When the data products are available, each answer will show the coverage of its records. A record can be missing because no trade happened or because the source has a gap.

What TradeRecount does not do

  • It does not give investment advice or trade recommendations.
  • It does not place trades or hold money.
  • It does not say that a strategy will make money.

Corrections

If a calculation or a data record is wrong, the page will be corrected. The correction date will be shown on the page. Old dates are not changed to make a page look recent.
